Business records, 1820-1865 (inclusive) [microform].

Correspondence and other papers of a merchant of New Bedford, Mass. Receipt books, ships' accounts, and letter books relating to whaling, 1831-1838. Among the whalers of which Morgan was agent or owner were the ships Condor, Hector, Hesper, President, Magnolia, Rodman, Pioneer, Frances Henrietta, Clarice, Abigail, Maria, Benezet, Troy, Wareham, and Charlestown Packet. There is also a receipt book, 1834-1835, for supplies for lighthouses and unbound papers, 1820-1865, including bills of lading, accounts current, bills, letters, and miscellany. Also included are two letter books relating to Duncannon Iron Works, Clark's Ferry, Pa., 1841-1850. The iron works were owned by Morgan and William L. Fisher. These private letter books deal with many interests, mainly in Pennsylvania. They are particularly interesting in their reflection of the business depression of the period, and show the hope the manufacturers had in the tariff.
